Rouen Duck
The Rouen -Duck is a large, domestic breed known for its striking resemblance to the Mallard but with a heavier body and more vibrant plumage. Originating in France, Rouen Ducks are primarily raised for meat production, thanks to their size, but they also serve as ornamental birds due to their beautiful coloration and calm demeanor.
Males have a rich green head, white ring around the neck, and a chestnut-brown body, while females are more subdued in color, with brown and gray feathers for camouflage. Rouens are slow to mature compared to other duck breeds, but they grow into robust ducks with excellent meat quality, often producing tender, flavorful meat that is highly sought after.
Rouen- Ducks are also good layers, providing medium to large white eggs, although they are not as prolific as some other egg-laying breeds. They are hardy and adaptable to various climates, making them a popular choice for both beginners and experienced duck keepers. With their calm temperament and high productivity, Rouen Ducks are a great addition to any farm, homestead, or poultry collection.
